Bringing Oktoberfest Home

When we think of Oktoberfest, Lederhosen, oompah bands, Bratwurst in pretzel buns and beer are just some of the delights that spring to mind.

The official Oktoberfest in Munich may have been cancelled due to COVID, but thankfully there’s no need to put your steins down just yet, as there are still plenty of ways you can celebrate at home.

No Oktoberfest can be celebrated without a few German beers, and luckily most supermarkets stock a wide range, includng non-alcoholic versions. Be sure to create an authentic beer-drinking experience by sipping out of a stein (the name of the authentic glass beer mugs).

With the food almost sharing centre stage with the beer, munching on an authentic pretzel is an absolute must. Our Swabian pretzels are delicious on their own, but can also be eaten with a variety of fillings such as cold meats and salads. If you prefer to keep things simple, our recently launched filled pretzels, in a choice of garlic, herb or salted caramel are ready to eat in only two minutes.

Finally, make sure the atmosphere is a authentic as the food. For a genuine Bavarian feel to your party, decorate using traditional Oktoberfest colors. The official colors of Bavaria are cobalt blue and white so choose napkins, tablecloths, and paper plates in these colors, and if your budget allows, hire an Oompah band or an accordion player to entertain your guests (failing that, a Bavarian playlist on Spotify will also do the job).

All that remains to be said is ‘Prost’ – enjoy your Oktoberfest.
